Well, that was ... anti-climactic?
Jul. 17th, 2011 10:55 pmAfter months of bizarre passive-aggressive grudge-holding (for what, we've never actually been told) Sister-in-Law has finally let us back over the sacred threshold of Her Household. Why the sudden change, we again have not been told, but the afternoon was quite pleasant, she and brother seemed pleased to have us there, Nephew #1 was thrilled to see us and Nephew #2 was very curious (and very cute.)
They live about fifteen minutes away and Nephew #1 goes to preschool in our street but I hadn't seen Nephew #2 since the day after he was born (Mum saw him one other time, by chance.) He is now five and half months old and oh my god, he has Dad's ears. Leprechaun ears! I have the same ears but they don't stick out the way Dad's did. He is also intensely curious about the world around him and he is clearly itching to be able to crawl - or even better, walk. Nephew #1 is three and half, as tall as a five-year-old and he never stops moving. When we got home, Mum did say that, while they are lovely children, she doesn't envy sister-in-law the task of riding herd on them all day.
I have no idea if a truce has been called or if brother finally put his foot down and told his wife that his mother and sister were welcome in his home but I hope the situation remains amicable after this. It's been stressing Mum out horribly. She just wants a chance to see her son and grandchildren now and then! Y'know, more than once a year. And SiL used to like us ...
It's all very strange.
